One of the characteristics of hydroxyapatite is its ability to bind to proteins.
In the oral cavity, this mainly refers to bacteria and plaque particles removed from teeth during brushing. The caries-causing bacterium S. mutans has a special affinity for hydroxyapatite, the main material of teeth. It reproduces only on the surface of teeth, colonizing it and forming plaque.

Because Sangi nano<mHAP> is nearly identical to tooth enamel, it selectively binds to S. mutans bacteria during brushing and helps remove them from the mouth with rinsing. It also collects and helps remove bacteria associated with periodontal disease, such as P. gingivalis and A. cometans , and even the fungus Candida .
